Hello all Ski Club Families,

On behalf of our president Jim Elliot and the rest of the Ski Club executive, I would like to welcome you all back for another season. We hope everyone had a great summer and is ready for another fun ski season, which before you know it will be upon us again 

It seems as summer has left us rather suddenly as we try to acclimatize to this lovely cooler weather. With early snow dropping on Big White these last couple of days it’s time again to buy those seasons ski passes and try to figure out who needs new equipment for the coming season 

The Kelowna Ski Club Annual General Meeting was held on June 15th; please see the attached minutes for a summary of the meeting.

At the time of the AGM the Registrar position was vacant with Francine Vandenberg stepping down after many years as our registrar. Thank you Francine for you hard work and dedication, it was a pleasure working with you.

Shortly after the AGM one of our Nancy Greene parents rose to the challenge. Welcome Gwyn! If you happen to be renewing your season pass at Orchard Park this weekend stop and say hi to Gwyn as she will be busy marketing our programs and taking registrations. Also, please welcome Marlene Deans to the position of Vice-President. Thanks Gwyn and Marlene for stepping up!

Upcoming Events

 Ski Swap
The 2006 Kelowna Ski Club Ski Swap will be held on October 26th, 27th, & 28th, so be sure to mark this on your calendar. The venue is the same as the last two years which is the New Life Church. Finalized dates & times will be announced.

 Pontiac GMC Ski Wax Day
We will be participating in the National Pontiac GMC Ski Wax Day on Saturday November 18th. Program Director Trevor Haaheim will be forwarding information as it comes available.


Registration for all programs is currently underway and new registration forms for the 2006/07 season have been emailed out to all of last years members. If by chance you did not receive one you can print one from our website at www.bigwhiteracers.com or call our Registrar Gwyn Prokop at 762-6118.

Marketing of our Alcan Nancy Greene Ski League program to attract new families to the club has always been a challenge. Our best marketing tool is right under our fingertips being our own membership. Most of our K+ racers have graduated from the Nancy Greene program, and 81 children in the program last year enjoyed a super fun ten weeks. These kids and families are our biggest asset to promote the ANGSL program. Talk to your friends and family and have your children get the word out to their friends. You are our most valuable resource to help build our entry level membership in one of the greatest family winter sports.
Volunteer "hours" will now be volunteer "events". Based on the level your child is participating in you will be required to help out at different events throughout the season. At this time the executive is trying to find a way to make this easier for everyone.The Ski Swap is a mandatory event for all K1, K2 and FIS. The swap is not counted in the total number of events required. As for the volunteer cheque written at the time of registration - if you have more than one child in the program you will be asked to write the cheque in the amount based on the highest level of your children and to help with the number events required at that level.
